The German IFPI Jahresbericht 2007 shows a record low in CD sales in Germany. Album CDs fell from 206.8 million copies sold in 1998 to 148.6 million copies sold in 2007. Even more dramatic is the fall of CD-Maxi singles from 54.8 million copies sold in 1998 to 7.2 million copies sold in 2007. Nonetheless, CD-2-Track-Singles gained considerably. Their sales went from 1 million sold in 1998 to 3.2 million sold in 2007.
No surprise is the increase in legal downloads. In 2007, 35.2 million songs were downloaded in Germany, which is almost five times more since its introduction in 2004.
